LAYER LIKE A PRO
THIS IS NOT A TREND! Basically it is a must do in order to both survive the Winter and look fab whilst doing it. Let's just get straight to the point shall we? Layering is perfect for all season, but how to do without looking like the lady that live at the train station who dons all her clothes can be difficult. The best way to layer is to watch your order of layers and also tones. Sticking to a similar tones throughout your pieces will mean they are cohesive and blend. I say tones, not colours because a black singlet, with a black duster and black coat on top, will bend in too much and won't define anything, nor give you a great silhouette.
For the base of this look I wore an ice blue silk cami tucked into straight leg denim both from TobyHeartGinger (shop below) which meant they were different enough in tone to show a distinct waistline and give shape to the look, whilst still being a shade of blue that allow you to be versatile with the rest of your outfit without it being over complicated. When it came to the layers, I selected two pieces in different textures however still in the same tone and layered them in order of thinnest to thickest from inside to out. The duster works under the coat because it gives movement to the outfit and elongates whilst being the same texture of the top that it matches well and keeps the amount of texture/colour/shape to a minimum. When it comes to an outer layer, a coat is always the best option as it adds a tonne of warmth to the ensemble which is removable for when you're going between temperatures. You can afford to add a new texture here if you've kept everything else to a minimum, and this teddy coat from Boohoo.com is my on trend pick for this winter.
Finish the look off with a boot, and be playful with it. I've carried the blue through my base layer into the boot to elongate my body and create the illusion of being taller, whilst still making a statement being a print. Add a cross body bag and VOILA you've nailed layering.
