CAN SPF AND TAN REALLY BE IN THE SAME SENTENCE?
I’ve been a little slack on the beauty front lately over here because I really haven't changed up my routine too much. I spoke about the latest and greatest in glow last month for you face, with both skincare and makeup, and thought being in the lead up to summer, why don’t we chat a little more about glowy skin, but this time about safe tanning and keeping that summer skin all year long.
I remember when I first started blogging and cult brand Bali Body hit instagram. Every girl had a bottle of tanning oil propped ever so perfectly next to tanned lithe limbs and everyone bought straight into it. It was the perfect campaign, have the worlds most beautiful people sharing the secret to their tan. I remember being just about to head to Bali for a little getaway and lusting after Bali Body products, but I was such a loyal reef oil user with their SPF filled products and tropical scent, that I skipped out on the cult favourite.
Fast forward three years and guess what just landed on my desk? You guessed it, a Bali Body pack hit my post box and the amazing team asked me try out the products and give an HONEST review, which I always do anyway, but when beauty brands ask you to be 100% real and honest, you know the products are going to be insanely good and deliver on their promises, they have no doubt about it.
Let’s start with the Luxe Moisturising Lotion, a moisture intense natural body lotion.’ Which it definitely is, full of Vitamin E, Aloe Vera and Camellia Tea Oil, it is so perfect for after sun care and of course winter skin. I loved the consistency of the lotion, which absorbs quickly, is not one bit greasy and not only works to hydrates, but does reduce scarring and stretch marks, which after two weeks of using, I have noticed a difference in the reduction of scarring across my knees. I do think though the bottle is relatively small and when using it all over your body daily, which is recommended it won’t last you past the 2 week mark, so maybe add 10 bottles of it to your Christmas wishlist so you have a Summer’s supply.
The Watermelon Tanning Oil was a little harder to test, as it has only just hit Spring her in Melbourne, so not the best tanning weather, but I can’t wait to trial it in Summer. For the past month I’ve been using it as a body oil to add extra hydration and of course a glow for events I’ve had on during the day, to try and start a little bit of a tan. The oil is lightweight and infused with watermelon seed oil which is said to speed up the production of melanin. I do like how the oil works as a hydrator and doesn’t just sit on the skin like other tanning oils do, and keeps your skin hydrated after sun too. I’ll have to revisit this in Summer and get back to you.
My absolute favourite product of the pack is the Moisturising Sunscreen because it is a summer essential, with SPF 15 to protect from UVA and UVB. Enriched with Sweet Almond Oil and Shea Butter, it has a similar runny consistency to the Moisturising Lotion, just with the added SPF which I absolutely love because it would allow your products to last longer, being able to wear the Sunscreen during the day and the lotion at night before bed. If I had to pick one product to purchase, it would definitely be this one, purely because I love a great SPF product, and that one that doesn’t leave you greasy or dry, gets bonus points from me. It is the perfect shape bottle, to slide into any size handbag and pretty enough to leave on your vanity to remind you to put in on everyday, but there definitely needs to be a larger size option, especially when you have your boyfriend using it as well.
Last but not least, the BB Cream, which I’m wearing in shade natural. The colour is perfect especially because my main concern is the colour of my face, because I don’t ever put my face in the sun, so it is perfect to add sheer coverage and a touch of colour to match my body. It has SPF 15 UVA and UVB Broad Spectrum, which I think could be improved, as I’m more of a minimum 30+ sunscreen user for my face and felt that I did still put a sunscreen on my face prior to applying the BB Cream. It is super lightweight, easy to apply, and not streaky at all, and is perfect with a touch of mascara and blush for everyday in Summer. I have super dry and dehydrated skin, and this product definitely kept my hydrated and glowing for at least 6 hours by the pool.
